Norman Mark Kinsman is one of the founding members of the firm. In 1984 he joined Jody Baker to form the firm Baker & Kinsman after practicing in a large firm which practices primarily insurance defense. In deciding to form a small firm, Mark wanted to escape the realities of large firm lawyering and create a collaborative relationship with his clients. A focus on the client was his vision for the firm and has become his and the firm’s ongoing principle since.
Mark holds two degrees from the University of Georgia. He graduated with a BBA in Accounting and his Juris Doctor. Mark is the son of an aeronautical engineer and has called many parts of the country home. His family has lived in Marietta, Georgia for many years. Mark has lived in Chattanooga for more than 30 years.
Mark has a distinguished career as civil litigator. He is known as one of the preeminent lawyers in Tennessee and Georgia in the area of fire/arson litigation. In addition to fire/arson litigation, Mark’s practice has concentrated on insurance coverage litigation, premises liability, personal injury defense and products liability.
Mark is admitted to practice in all state courts in Tennessee and Georgia. He is also admitted in the United States District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Tennessee as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is a member of the Chattanooga and Tennessee Bar Associations, as well as the Defense Research Institute, and the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association.
Mark is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys rowing, cycling, and running. Mark and his wife Patty have two adult daughters, Jessy and Bailey.

Joe Hollis was born and raised in Walker County, Georgia. Joe worked his way through college and law school earning degrees from the University of Georgia (B.A. 1981) and Mercer University (J.D. 1985). Joe joined the firm in 1985 as an associate attorney and became a partner in 1990.
Joe has a reputation as a skilled trial attorney. Since joining the firm in 1985, he has focused his practice on insurance defense, including personal injury defense, wrongful death, common carrier, and general liability. Joe’s success as a litigator is, in part, based on his attention to detail and his relentless investigation skills. Joe works tirelessly to represent his clients.
Joe lives on Signal Mountain with his wife and twin children. He is a member of the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church where he is active in several areas of ministry.
Joe is admitted to practice in all state courts in Tennessee and Georgia. He is also admitted in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and is a member of the Chattanooga and Tennessee Bar Associations.
Fred S. Clelland

Wilfred (Fred) Clelland was born in Holland, MI. He grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee where he received a B.A. in 1986. His postgraduate degrees are from the University of Tennessee where he received both his MBA and JD in 1990. Fred is a member of the Chattanooga Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association and the Brock-Cooper Inns of Court. He is licensed to practice in the State of Tennessee and is admitted to the Tennessee Supreme Court and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee
Since graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Law, Fred has been involved in a diverse practice. During the first ten years of his career in law, Fred was a partner in a general practice law firm where he handled everything from domestic relations/criminal work to personal injury litigation. Since 1999, when he joined the firm, Fred’s practice has consisted primarily of general defense litigation with a focus on representation of insurance companies, their insureds and other corporate entities.
Fred has tried cases throughout Middle and East Tennessee and has argued cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Fred is married to his wife, Mary Ann, and they have two children, Emily and Mary Catherine. Fred and his family are members of First Centenary United Methodist Church.

Stephany Pedigo attended law school at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Stephany enjoyed the learning and growth opportunities afford to her at law school. She was active in her class and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. She was the recipient the Judge H.H. Grooms, Sr., Dean’s, Leadership and Corbitt scholarships. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and nominated by the faculty to the Order of the Coif. Stephany ultimately graduated fourth in her class of over two hundred peers.
After law school, Stephany and her husband, Austin, moved back to Chattanooga, his home town. Stephany worked with a firm that offered various areas of practice. At the firm, Stephany practiced in the areas of insurance defense, medical malpractice defense, bankruptcy, wills and estates, and commercial litigation.
Stephany and Austin welcomed their first child into the world in June 2000. Stephany chose to continue her legal career from home. During this time, she developed a practice representing the mentally ill and foster children, representing families in conservatorship matters and drafting estate planning instruments.
Stephany is a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. She serves her church as a Sunday School teacher, youth group volunteer and volunteer with special needs children. Stephany and Austin have three children: Philip, Nathanael and Margaret. Stephany is delighted to continue her career with Baker, Kinsman, Hollis and Clelland.
Josiah “Jody” Baker (1929-2015)
Jody Baker is the founder of the firm. Jody has enjoyed an illustrious and distinguished career as a litigator and transactional lawyer. He was born in Chattanooga in 1929. After serving in the Navy, Jody graduated with a Bachelor’s of Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1951 and graduated with a law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1953.
Jody’s has been committed during his career to all types of defense litigation, primarily on the defense. He also served for many years as counsel for the Hamilton County-Chattanooga Air Pollution Control Bureau. He has worked with the Bureau to ensure that Chattanooga and the surrounding communities enjoy clean air and to make certain that Chattanooga businesses and government entities are compliant with state and federal laws and regulations.
Jody is a long-time member of First Centenary Methodist Church in Chattanooga. He is married to Elizabeth “Betty” Baker and has three children. He is also a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast and is a mystery writer of some note in his own right.
